- Bridgton Academy point guard Jarryn Skeete has committed to the University of Buffalo.  Skeete is from the Toronto area and ran with CIA Bounce on the summer circuit.  Meanwhile, also in Maine, Lee Academy senior forward Jean Y'ves Toupane yesterday committed to St Bonaventure......The NERR National Prep Showcase is only a few days away and the Spaceship's finna be rockin' all weekend long fo sho.  Of the 21 games scheduled to be played at the Showcase, 19 will be between a New England school and a non-New England school...so here's the question...how many W's will New England get out of those 19?? Let's get 15..Most teams play two games this weekend but some play one only.  What players will be the top scorers? rebounders? dime-droppers? trey-poppers? rejection agents? pick-pocket artists? charge takers? charlie hustle point earners?...New Hampton is playing against the Harvard JV squad tonight at 8:00 pm at Harvard.

- Heading west from Boston, Worcester Academy head coach Jamie Sullivan has a rock 'em-sock 'em squad which should make some noise in Class AA this season..The foremost strength of this club will be the no-nonsense stable of guards featuring senior Oliver Paul-Betu and junior Rene Castro.  Paul-Betu is a sleek combo guard from Montreal who is committed to UC Davis while the celebrated Castro is currently Boston's top high school guard. Worcester also has two other dangerous back-court weapons in 5'9 junior Ausar Madison from Carson, CA and 6'0 junior Ben Mesuda from Kingston, NY....Out on the wings for the Hilltoppers will be junior Thomas Rivard and senior Canaan Severin.  Rivard is a skilled 6'6+ forward who has gotten measurably stronger and more explosive since last year and appears on the verge of a breakout 2011-12, while Severin is a tough customer with big time athletic ability who is headed to Virginia next Fall on a football scholarship...The Hilltopper big-man bunk will consist of a counselor in 6'8 senior post-grad Andrew Scocca and three campers in talented 6'9 sophomore Matt Cimino, athletic 6'6 sophomore Tyreik McCauley, and wildcard 6'7 freshman Sam Joaquin.  If this crew can perform at a high-level, this Worcester Academy club could be dangerous when throw-your-cards-on-the-table time arrives.

- After defeating Redemption Christian Academy (NY) last night in the semifinals, Brewster Academy, in the final today, defeated Notre Dame Prep at Pembroke Academy (NH) by a score of 107-89 to move to 3-0 on the season and capture the Chip at the 2011 New Hampshire Prep Invitational.  Leading the way for Brewster this afternoon was Florida State-bound shooting guard Aaron Thomas, who exploded for 36 points.  Semaj Christon put up 17 points and 12 assists and was named the NHPI MVP.  Mitch McGary lumbered up with 16 points and 17 boards.  Jakarr Sampson had 16 points and 9 boards, while TJ Warren dropped in 12.  And according to Brewster head coach Jason Smith, combo guard Joe Bramanti again played an outstanding floor game and served a crucial role in the victory...For Notre Dame Prep, Myles Davis reportedly was very impressive in lighting it up from start to finish with his deadly long-range shooting stroke...Brewster is off this week and then resumes play next weekend when they'll travel to the NE Recruiting Report National Prep Showcase in Connecticut.

- Out in Ashburnham, Mass at Cushing Academy, head coach Barry Connors has a fascinating roster in terms of talent and story-lines.  Everything will start with 6'8 junior power forward Andrew Chrabascz, a versatile, hard-nosed, high-IQ ballplayer who can operate down low or he's also a guy through whom you can run offense in the high post or out on the perimeter.  Another player through whom Cushing will launder offense is Maine-native Alex Furness, a talented 6'6 left-handed post grad with a nice feel for the game.  Furness can effectively play the one spot through the three...Cushing will showcase a talented group of six guards.  There's Treaven Duffy, a flamboyant 6'2, left-handed senior scoring guard from Northern California who's the son of NBA Agent Bill Duffy, the representative of players such as Steve Nash and Rajon Rondo.  Then there's the tantalizing pair of sophomore guards in Kaleb Joseph and Idris Taqqee, who together form New England's top sophomore back-court duo heading into the season.  Two additional back-court weapons will come in the form of high IQ junior sharpshooter Chris Mullin Jr and the freshman who has everyone talking, Jaime Carey.  What's the connection there?  Mullin Jr is of course the son of NBA all-time-great Chris Mullin while Carey is the nephew of New England all-time great Chris Herren and as noted in both Basketball Junkie, (Herren's book) and Unguarded (Herren's ESPN 30 for 30 Film), Mullin was instrumental in helping Herren in his struggle against addiction and the two remain the closest of friends.  Good stuff...And lastly for the Cushing back-court will be 6'1 junior Bernard Mokum, a catch and shoot artist from New York who actively pursues opportunities to practice his craft...While the Penguins will possess overflowing depth out on the perimeter, the same can not be said for the big man bunk, where in addition to Chrabascz, Cushing will have only two other true bigs pulling shifts in the middle.  Senior Tyler McFarland is a 6'5 bull-dog from Camden, Maine who rebounds the ball hard and mixes it up in the paint, looking to outwork the opposition.  Additionally, Cushing will call upon 6'6 senior step-away 4-man Andrew Esancy, a player who can draw out the interior defense with his perimeter stroke or sneak up on you with his deceptive athleticism and catch a dunk from the wing....Cushing opens up on Wednesday, November 30 against St Andrews and as things get going, it'll be interesting to see how Connors begins to weave this group together.

- Tonight up in the Live Free or Die State , the semifinals of the New Hampshire Prep Invitational took place at Pembroke Academy.  The Spaceship was able to make it up for the first game between Brewster Academy and Redemption Christian Academy out of Troy, NY...RCA came out of the gates playing ferociously on defense and shooting the eyes out of the ball on the offensive end to take an early 10-6 lead.  Brewster quickly closed the gap and then the two teams played evenly until about the halfway mark of the first half, at which point Brewster began building what would end up being a 50-37 advantage goin' into the break.  They were led in the 1st half by 12 points each from Semaj Christon and Jakarr Sampson as well as 10 points from TJ Warren, 7 from Aaron Thomas, and 5 from Mitch McGary, who RCA swarmed with double-teams throughout the night with their undersized front-line...RCA started off the second half just like they did the first, winning the first five minutes to make it a 58-49 defect with 15 minutes to play.  Enter Joe Bramanti, who checked into the game and guided Brewster back into totalitarian command.  Beginning at the 15m mark, Brewster put the petal to the metal and burned off a seven-and-a-half minute 25-5 run to make it an 83-54 Brewster lead with 7-and-a-half to play.  The lead remained right around 30 for the rest of the game and Brewster ended up winning by a final of 98-67...With the RCA defense focusing on big-fella Mitch McGary, (13 points & 8 rebounds) Jakarr Sampson led the way for Jason Smith's club tonight, dropping a hot-cauldron line of 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 blocks with 4 or 5 loud dunks, reminding of Julian Wright.  Also making a mess of the stat sheet was Jalen Reynolds, who finished with 9 points, 10 boards, 5 blocks, and the play of the night on a penthouse one-hand put-back slam which drew a noise ordinance violation from the crowd.  Having a nice night at the point was Semaj Christon, who finished with 21 points, 8 assists, 3 steals, and numerous deflections.  Also putting up 21 points was small forward TJ Warren, while Aaron Thomas registered 14 points and 8 rebounds from the back-court.  Another important contributor was combo guard Joe Bramanti, who played big minutes and served as the glue stick which melded together the different tiles of talent on the floor for Brewster.  He did a great job of distributing the ball on the offensive end and changed the tone of the game on defense by aggressively contesting the RCA three-point shots to cool down the red-hot RCA snipers...The Spaceship was unable to stay for the second semifinal game tonight, but we have received confirmation that Notre Dame Prep defeated Rise Academy out of Philly to set up a New Hampshire Prep Invitational Final tomorrow at 2:30pm between Brewster Academy and Notre Dame Prep.  Keep the oven warm...

- Each year, more sons of 80's and 90's NBA ballplayers are out on the hardwood themselves, and this year, lacin' em' up in New England will be more NBA sons than in any year before.  Let's throw a rock through the window and take a look...In the back-court for Wellesley HS (MA) will be Cooper and Crew Ainge, the sons of former Celtics player and current general manager Danny Ainge.  Taking the floor for Cushing Academy will be off-guard Chris Mulllin Jr '13, the son of Original Dream Teamer and NBA All-Star Chris Mullin.  Rollin' for St Thomas More will be lead-gaurd AJ English II '12 from Delaware, the son of former NBA back-up point guard AJ English.  Playing for Pete Hutchins at New Hampton will be combo-guard Evan Manning '12, the son of current Kansas Assistant Coach Danny Manning, the former All-Star and #1 pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.  Suiting up for Bridgton Academy will be swing-man Billy Thompson Jr from Pinecrest HS in Florida, the son of former Louisville and NBA small forward Billy Thompson.  At Glastonbury HS (CT) playing in the back-court will be talented sophomore guard Jalen Ollie, the son of current UCONN Assistant Coach and former NBA point guard Kevin Ollie.  And wearing the Notre Dame Prep flag will be scoring guard Sam Cassell Jr from Baltimore, Maryland, the son of former NBA All-Star and Champion Sam Cassell.

- Today on this rainy Thursday afternoon, the Spaceship descends for the first time on the ancient land of Maine, where head coach Whit Lesure has a high-powered roster at Bridgton Academy, "the nation's only all post-graduate private school for young men."  Let's take a look...With the quintet of Darrick Wood, Amir Garrett, Markus Crider, Melikke Nichols, and Jarryn Skeete, Bridgton, without a doubt, has one of the most talented first-fives in New England and also America.  Jarryn Skeete is a long, 6'2 point guard from the Toronto area who was impressive running the show for CIA Bounce last summer at Peach Jam.  At the 2-spot, Darrick Wood is a St Johns-bound trampoline artist from DC.  At the 3 will be 6'5 left-handed high-flyer Amir Garrett from Los Angeles who is also committed to St Johns and could be there this year for second semester.  At the other forward spot will be former Providence-commit Markus Crider, a physical 6'5 wing player from Dayton, Ohio who can mix it up in the paint.  Rounding out the first-five is former Hofstra-commit Melikke Nichols, a springy 6'6 athlete with long arms from Far Rockaway, NY...Off the Wolverine bench, Lesure will have three nice options in James McDonnell, Chris Green Jr, and Billy Thompson Jr.   At 6'9, Swansea, Mass-native James McDonnell gives Bridgton a legitimate space-eater who will go to battle down-low.  Providing quality back-court depth will be former Taunton HS star-guard Chris Green Jr, while adding ammo on the wing will be Billy Thompson Jr, a solid 6'5 wing who played with Brandon Knight at Pinecrest HS in Florida and is the son of former Louisville, LA Lakers and Miami Heat small forward Billy Thompson Sr, who was known as the BT Express...Bridgton will be in action next weekend in two intriguing match-ups at the NERR National Prep Showcase, one with St John's Miltary Academy our of Wisconsin on Friday and another against Hargrave Military Academy out of Virginia on Saturday.

- Out in Thompson, Connecticut at Marianapolis Prep, head coach Andrew Vitale has a well-rounded ball-club which will be a handful in the NEPSAC and should contend in Class AA.  Let's take a moment and sip the Golden Knight Kool-Aid...Let's start at the point, where Marianapolis will roll with Baltimore-tough floor-general Nigel Sydnor, a powerful senior guard with a chiseled frame who bullies his way to the basket and knocks down perimeter shots.  Joining him in the back-court will be the Golden Knights' leading scorer from last season in Kristian Medina, a talented 6'4 Puerto Rican back-court operator who recently received a D1 Scholarship Offer from UT-Pan American...Out on the wings for Marianapolis will be the complimentary combination of post-grad Kachi Nzerem from Boston and junior Russian-import Alex Dubovitsky.  Nzerem is a long, athletic wing player with lock-down defensive ability and a knock-down trey-ball game, while Dubovitsky is a gym-rat 6'3 sniper who shoots the lights out and looks to create off the bounce...As solid as Vitale's club is out on the perimeter, the biggest strength of this squad might come from the under-the-radar interior duo of junior Greg Senat and sophomore Bobby Ahearn.  Senat is an athletic 6'7 junior forward from New York with impressive physical tools who holds offers from schools such as James Madison, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Robert Morris, and Quinnipiac, while Ahearn is 6'6 paint-technichian from Marshfield, Mass who has gotten markedly slimmer, taller, faster, and more explosive in the past third-of-the-year and seems poised to explode on his sophomore campaign...As the season unfolds, we'll see what other wildcards emerge in the Marianapolis rotation...The Golden Knights will open up their season next Wednesday against Worcester Academy.

- Early in August, it looked like Jaylen Brantley '13 would be getting the keys to a limited-edition Chevy Tahoe tricked out with Andre Drummond and Kris Dunn.  But after everything played out, Dunn opted to remain at New London HS and Drummond decided to reverse-reclassify and head to UCONN rather than do a post grad year.  Despite the fact that the LE Tahoe was not to be at Wilbraham & Monson, J-Brant will still be pushin' a dangerous ride which will be quite capable of doin' damage in the NEPSAC Class AA.  Let's take a look...

In Brantley, WMA head coach Chris Sparks has a special floor general who knows how to maximize the ability of the specific team around him.  He'll be joined in the back-court by fast-paced German senior guard Maodo Lo, a talented 6'3 ballplayer who'll likely end up at a mid or high major school.  (Watch his video) Behind Brantley and Lo, WMA will have quality back-court depth with Robinson Vilmont '12 coming off the bench and also contending for minutes will be Alex Ramone '12 from Spain along with Brandon McKenna and Mike Mendes....Out on the wings, the Titans will have a versatile trio of options in the resurgence-minded Kamali Bey '13, the savvy, glue senior Mike Boornazian, and sophomore sniper Joey O'Connell.  Also in the mix will be talented, physically-strong 6'5 freshman Darnay Gray...Down-low for Chris Sparks will be an inexperienced group of big fellas whose output will likely be the determing factor in how succesful a  ball-club the Titans will be.  The surest entity comes in the form of freshman big-man Marcel Pettway, a 6'5 thumper with long arms and emerging perimiter skills.  Pettway has a great feel for the game and is going to be a tremendous player.  Also pulling shifts on the block will be 7'3 Australian center Mark Overdost '12, a space-eating rebounder with a soft touch around the basket.  Rounding out the Wilbraham n' Monson big man quartet will be 6'9 sophomore wildcard Sadiq Adedeji and the raw but rapidly improving 6'10 Haitian longster Djery Baptiste.

Wilbraham and Monson will play against Winchendon next weekend in CT at the New England Recruiting Report National Prep Showcase.

- Earlier today, Five-Star #1 ranked Brewster Academy opened up their season at home with a 79-61 victory over Central Jersey Each One Teach One.  According to a tweet by Brewster head coach Jason Smith, "NC State-bound TJ Warren had a game-high 28 points, while Jakarr Sampson added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Florida State-bound Aaron Thomas had 14 points, while future Xavier guard Semaj Christon added 10 points, 7 assists, and 7 steals."  The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday when they'll play Redemption Christian (NY) in the semis of the New Hampshire Prep Invitational.

- This past weekend in Boston, Leo Papile's Boston Amatuer Basketball Club hosted its' annual fall tournament, the BABC Veterans Day Classic.  In the freshmen division, Bobby Martin, Terrence Mann, Bruce Brown, and Jordan Scurry led BABC to a 3-0 weekend record and the VDC 15u Chip.  At the sophomore level, BABC went 2-o on the weekend behind the strong back-court play of Johnathan Joseph and Jalen Adams, the potent long-range marksmanship of Tyler Nelson, the Top Gun threat of Curtis Cobb and Damion Smith on th wings, and the hard-nosed inside duo of Bobby Ahearn and Tyree Robinson. ..Also in 16u play, the New England Playaz knocked off the RI Hawks in a tight one in what many dubbed as the game of the weekend.  According to multiple sources, both Jarred Reuter '15 of the Playaz and Henry Bolton of the Hawks were playing at a very high level as Reuter finished the game with 30 points and 16 boards and Bolton dropped in 26 while scattering splashes of steals, assists, and rebounds. Also heard that Markus Neale was very impressive with 19 points for the Boston Spartans in their game against BABC...In the 17u division, the BABC juniors got together one last time before the scholastic season starts, earning a victory over the Middlesex Magic late Sunday afternoon with a roster of Nerlens Noel, Goodluck Okonoboh, Wayne Selden, Kamari Robinson, L'Quan Arnum, Kamali Bey, and Tyrese Hoxter. (Jaylen Brantley had to be on the WMA campus)...With the 2011 Fall AAU Season officially in the books, the coordinates on the Spaceship time-machine have now been set for the looming New England scholastic basketball season.

South Kent ready for NEPSAC AAA run

- Outside of Brewster Academy, there isn't a team in New England more-loaded than Kelvin Jefferson's ball-club at the South Kent School, where a thoroughbred stable of guards will look to mesh with an intriguing front-line to make a serious run in the NEPSAC Triple A.  Let's grab a few guards and take a tour of their Hoops Fortress.

While Brewster's quality-depth overflows on the front-line, the quality-depth spillage at South Kent occurs in the back-court, where they feature not only two All-Americans in senior Ricky Ledo and junior Chris Thomas, but also two other high-major guys in Missouri-commit Shawn Smith '12 from Jacksonville and Kansas State-commit Zedric Sadler '12 from Detroit.  In addition to these four guys, South Kent will get steadiness at the point from Baltimore-tough point guard Leron Fisher and also contending for back-court minutes will be Dylan Benz  Frank Bennett, and Steven Pandales....In terms of wing forwards, South Kent has a trio of solid options in lefty gun-slinger  Riley Kirsch and the athletic pair of combo-forward Tre Oliver and Abdoulaye Harouna from Niger, who made his American debut this summer at the Adidas Nation's Games...Down-low, South Kent has a pair of seven-footers in Isaac Freeman '12n and Kansas State-bound Laimonas Chatkevicius '12 and they also have an under-the-radar power forward in the Brooklyn-tough Kent State-bound bruiser Chris Ortiz '12.

- Up in the Catamount State, Jesse Bopp has a real-deal roster which makes Vermont Academy a legitimate NEPSAC Class AA contender heading into the season.  The squad will be made up of a formidable Big 4 made up of two players from Texas and two from Baltimore. Let's spread out the map and take a closer look at their constitution.

- At point guard for Vermont Academy will be UMass-bound floor-general Trey Davis, a Dallas native who knows how to run a prime-time show...Flanking Trey on the wings will be the highly-talented Baltimore duo of juniors Daquien McNeil, a highly-athletic junior guard with electric scoring ability from the wing, and Jamel Artis, a long versatile 6'5 guard who loves to get out and showcase his skills in the open floor...The man in the middle who everyone is talkin' about is junior big man Dominic Woodson, an athletic 6'9 Texan wide-body who holds offers from the likes of Maryland, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Illinois, and more...The two other players who will ride in the front of the pack with the Big 4 will be junior small forward Donnele Munda and senior guard Troy Davine '12.  Munda is a nice wing player from Toronto who holds an offer from Loyola (MD), while hard-nosed guard Troy Davine of Rutland will give Vermont Academy one homegrown player riding out in front of the pack.

- Earlier today, senior forward Connor Mahoney of the Brooks School accepted to full-scholarship to LeMoyne College up in Syracuse, New York.  Mahoney had a great summer running with the Middlesex Magic and in the span of a few weeks, went from a guy getting primarily D3 interest to a legitimate scholarship prospect.  Big congratulations to Connor, a player who has a reputation of being a dynamic leader in the mold of former big-league ballplayer Sean 'The Mayor' Casey.

- The day after his teammate TJ Warren committed to North Carolina State, Brewster Academy big man Mitch McGary committed to the University of Michigan, choosing the Wolverines in the end over Duke and Florida.  For the Wolverine basketball faithful, today's commitment was a momentous and historic happening, as McGary, the top big man in America, is the biggest recruiting score for Michigan Hoops since Chris Webber more than twenty years ago.  Furthermore, when you throw in Nick Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III, it is safe to say that head coach John Beilein's 2012 recruiting class will come in among the nation's best and will be Michigan's best since the Fab Five.

- Earlier in the week, Kaleb Tarczewski committed to joining a fantastic 2012 recruiting class for Arizona head coach Sean Miller, joining Grant Jerrett, Gabe York, and Brandon Ashley in the desert convertible.  Well today, Brewster Academy small forward TJ Warren committed to join quite a recruiting class himself, choosing North Carolina State over Georgetown.  For Warren, a Durham, North Carolina-native, opting for NC State means choosing to play college ball at home, where he will join fellow North Carolina-natives Tyler Lewis and Rodney Purvis in an impressive, high-powered 2012 Trio for Wolfpack boss Mark Gottfried in Raleigh.

St Marks set for another campaign

- Heading into last spring, it looked like St Marks would return a fearsome starting five of Kevin Zabo at the one, Nick Stauskas the 2, Alex Murphy at the 3, Jarred Reuter at the 4 and Kaleb Tarczewski in the middle.  But as we all know, circumstances change quickly in the world today.  First, Alex Murphy announced he would reverse reclassify back to the class of 2011 and head to Duke this year.  Then, early in the summer, word broke that Kevin Zabo was transferring to Montrose Christian in Maryland.  Then, later in the summer, it was announced that Jarred Reuter was departing for Tabor Academy. 

- Despite the losses of these three high-level players, St Marks still has a dangerous roster which makes it one the top Class AA teams in New England heading into the season.  When you talk about this Lions club, everything begins with one of the best duos in New England in the inside-outside combo of Arizona-commit Kaleb Tarczewski and Michigan-commit Nick Stauskas. Tarczewski is one of the top centers in America and the nation's #7 ranked player on ESPN.  He's a legitimate moving-mountain-type center who changes games with his tyrannical presence in the lane. Stauskas is an athletic, versatile back-court player with good size at 6'5 and the ability to play on the wing or handle from the point...On the wing opposite Stauskas will be Holy Cross-bound Arizona native Eric Green, a long, athletic senior guard with a reputation as a lock-down ball defender...At the point for St Marks, Georgetown, Mass-native Jaymie Spears '12 will get a chance to show what he can do behind-the-wheel of a high-level ship...Next to Tarczewski down-low will be 6'7 freshman forward Aaron Falzon, a talented son of Newton, Mass who will stretch the floor with his smooth shooting-stroke...The sixth-man for this club could likely be Eli Lubick, a high IQ wing who facilitates and can shoot the ball...Providing the depth down-low will another freshman in Hudson, Mass-native Aaron McLean, an athletic 6'5 forward with long arms, a great motor, and a high upside...By the end of the month, we should know what other wildcards will be in the mix for St Marks this winter.

- Yesterday, Suffield Academy 6'10 big man Ben Freeland, of California, committed to play in the Patriot League at Lafayette...Also yesterday, Cushing Academy combo guard Kaleb Joseph '14 received a scholarship offer from Providence...Tomorrow, Brewster Academy stars TJ Warren and Mitch McGary will each announce their college decisions.  Warren, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina will be choosing between hometown-North Carolina State and Georgetown while Chesterton, Indiana-native McGary is choosing from a final three of Florida, Duke, and Michigan; although, according to ACC Hoops Guru Clint Jackson, "Sounds like the field has conceded Mitch McGary to Michigan. Nothing official yet -- but all signs point to The Wolverines landing McGary."..The NERR National Prep Showcase is 19 days away.
