State of the Union Address: MIAA EMASS D1

Mike Carbone: Sean Connolly's Mr. Clutch
MIAA EMASS D1 Top 20 headin' into Christmas
1) St John's Prep (2-0) - The experienced duo of Steve Haladyna and Mike Carbone put the Prep on top of a currently cluttered MIAA Eastern Mass Top Floor.

2) Catholic Memorial (3-0) - Impressive win over St Peter Marian at the Basketbull Catholic Showcase.  Matt Droney should have been on some preseason All-State teams.

3) Central Catholic (2-0) - Rick Nault's team is right there at the top led by senior pit-bull guard Luis Puello.

4) East Boston (3-1) - Huge win at home on Tuesday over Charlestown for Malcolm Smith's squad.  Zach Gattereau, who had 24 against the Townies, looks to be on the verge of City League Stardom.

5) Charlestown (2-1) - Suffered a set-back on Tuesday night at Eastie, they'll bounce back and begin their ascent back up the mountain.

6) Newton North (2-0) - Year in and year out, Paul Connolly is a master of getting the most out of his team.  This year should be no different, and the Tigers have a nice combination of veteran and rookie talent.

7) BC High (2-1) - Two nice wins over Brockton and Brookline, one loss to Charlestown.  Jameilen Jones leadin' the Bill Loughnane Attack.

8) New Bedford (2-0) - Needed OT to get a win against St Bernard's out of Central Mass.  The Whalers have one of the state's top duos in Jonathan Fortes and Steve Wynn.

9) Brookline (2-1) - B-Line looks ready to make a run behind sophomore floor general EJ Rogers and an athletic supporting cast.

10) Acton-Boxborough (2-0) - Seniors Joey Flannery and Kevin LaFrancis give the Colonials the top tandem in the Dual County.

11) Mansfield (2-0) - Big win for Mike Vaughn's squad over Jake Layman and King Philip also those in the "know" weren't "stunned."

12) Lynn English (2-1) - Keandre Stanton is one the top players in the state; however, red flags were raised in Lynn after the Bulldogs dropped one to Beverly.

13) Brockton (2-1) - If the Boxers can get everyone on the same page, they certainly have the talent to make a run at the Cup.

14) Needham (2-1) - Well-rounded ball-club has one of the best coaching staffs around with Head Coach Paul Liner and a top-notch AC in former Wellesley HS Head Coach Mike Reidy.

15) Lexington (2-1) - The tallest and longest squad in Eastern Mass will get better quickly and should be dangerous when they get into their groove.

16) Westford Academy (4-0) - The Grey Ghosts are the first Eastern Mass team to reach the 4-win plateau.

17) Weymouth (2-0) - Senior lead guard Damien Lugay busted out for 36 in the Wildcats' opening night OT win over Natick.

18) Lawrence (2-0) - The Lancers are off to a nice start.  Look out for sophomore forward Roberto Speing.

19) Madison Park (2-0) - Dennis Wilson's ball-club is out of the gates 2-0.  We'll see what they got on the other side of the New Year's Ball.

20) Andover (2-0) - The 1-2 front-court punch of junior Sam Dowden and senior James Costello will lead Dave Fazio's club to a lot of wins.
